Today almost 50 people from The Power Center went out and volunteered to work with Children's Restoration Network to prepare food items for underpriviliged youth in our commnunity. This is our 2nd year working with this charity and we had a GREAT time!
I believe that serving the community is a vital part of our endeavor to be like Christ. It's great to go to church on Sunday, but it's important that we ask ourselves what are we doing to make life better for others thoughout the rest of the week. It's unfortunate that "church" has become so self-centered. Most of the time the church's time, resources and programs are all geared toward the folks that are already in the pews. Whatever happend to the GREAT COMMISSION? How is it that we've seemed to forget the least among us?
My heart was really full today when I saw that so many others in my church share my perspective on service. In our own way we're going to make our community a better place for ALL OF US!
